New Zealand Herald, Saturday 29th November
"Little, together with pianist Martin Roscoe, opens the set with this piece, its restless textures offering limitless scope for the intense emotional engagement that we so value in these musicians.
The slow movement, substantially in 7/4, is a beautifully drawn-out song; as often happens on this disc, you find yourself craning forward to enjoy the very physical sound of bow on string... "
Verdict: "French sonatas glow with the energy and impetuousness of youth."
International Record Review, November 2014
“… captured in gloriously full sound, underpinning the Brahmsian quality of the piano writing … The slow movement carries on the broad Romantic impulse, Roscoe’s tone capturing the fullness while also achieving a veiled quality.(on Lekeu’s Sonata)
Full credit must go to the Chandos engineers for reproducing this so well: equally Little draws the loveliest of tones from her Guadagnini violin….”
Classic FM published an article on September 15th:
More children now learning electric guitar than violin By Daniel Ross, 15th September 2014, 11:20
Tasmin is quoted in this: Violinist Tasmin Little OBE told Classic FM: "There are undoubtedly some instruments whose initial phases of practice are more gratifying than others... as a violinist, I know that one of the first hurdles to be overcome is mastering the tricky aspect of the bow. As the bow is responsible for most of tonal production, it can be depressing to be doing all the right things with the left hand, only to find that the results are hampered by a lack of ability to control the unwieldy stick of wood! It is this initial difficulty that can be off-putting to some people who might otherwise choose such a beautiful and lyrical instrument."
She added:
"However, the rewards of persevering with the violin will give a player so many opportunities to collaborate with other musicians as well as engendering new excitements of repertoire for many happy years."

May 25th SUNDAY TIMES - Classical - ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Tasmin's new Chandos CD of the Walton Violin Concerto has received a lovely review today in the ST.
Here is an extract:
"In her second recording of the Violin Concerto – the first was made with the Bournemouth SO and Andrew Litton (Decca) – Little offeres a mature, deeply felt and brilliant account of a work she has championed more than any other contemporary violinist, especially memorable in the bluesy rubato musings of the central “Neapolitan” caprice." The Financial Times writes on 16th May 2014 *****
Walton: Symphony No 1, Violin Concerto – review By Andrew Clark A perfect pairing of the composer’s two symphonic masterworks
"Long eclipsed by Britten, Walton is a composer in need of champions. His First Symphony and Violin Concerto are supposedly repertoire works, yet we seldom hear them in the concert hall. This CD – a perfect pairing of his two symphonic masterworks – shows what we have been missing. Gardner and the BBC Symphony Orchestra profile the symphony’s turbulent syncopations, brassy dissonances and expressionist brilliance – a truly exhilarating performance.
In the concerto, Little finds the nexus between sultry lyricism and rapturous virtuosity."
A new favourable review, for Tasmin's new Walton concerto CD, a few days ago, on SA-CD.net
"Walton's Violin Concerto is an apt choice of coupling for the Symphony. Begun in 1938 as a result of a commission from Jascha Heifetz, it successfully amalgamates the dazzling virtuoso elements expected by Heifetz with lyrical music that for the first time expresses Walton's life long love of the Amalfi coast of Southern Italy. This is the second time that Tasmin Little, a true champion of British music, has recorded the Walton Violin Concerto – the first was in the mid 90s with Andrew Litton and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. In Little's performance, recorded here in the fine acoustic of the Watford Colosseum, it is the lyrical aspects of the first movement and parts of the finale that make the strongest impression.
The romantic and dreamy tranquillity of the opening movement is marvellously conveyed by the rapturous sounds that she elicits from her rich toned instrument. The challenges of the central scherzo are met with absolute conviction and mischievous wit, while Gardner and the BBC SO provide incisive accompaniment throughout in which the balance between soloist and orchestra seems ideal.
Those seeking a coupling of these two Walton masterpieces will be more than well served by this outstanding disc that certainly warrants a top recommendation." Graham Williams

Tasmin will be playing her 20th Prom this season.
The Independent on Sunday article by Claudia Pritchard in today's edition is a lovely tribute to Tasmin's sponsorship of British music.
A wonderful review of Tasmin's last Chandos CD "The Lark Ascending" appeared in the May edition of Australia's LIMELIGHT Music Magazine.
Little launches the loveliest of Larks ever to take flight
British violinist Tasmin Little has been playing Vaughan Williams’ evocation of a lark in flight for most of her career – she and Sir Andrew Davis recorded it 20 years ago for Teldec – but this new recording on Chandos is something else altogether. It’s not just that Little’s tone is nigh on ideal, capable of an extraordinary ethereal sweetness, but her sense of phrasing makes the whole work into one long melody, seemingly untroubled by bar lines. Davis and Chandos support this flight with a gorgeous cushion of string sound, surpassing any other audio account that can recall.
Tasmin's concert in Salisbury Cathedral on Friday, on March 7th at 19:30 where she played:
Shostakovich – Symphony 5 (finale)

Exploring the impact that Estonian composer Arvo Pärt's piece for piano and violin Spiegel im Spiegel has had on people's lives.
It's in F major in 6/4 time, with the piano playing rising crotchet triads and the violin playing slow scales, alternately rising and falling, of increasing length, which all end on the note A. The score of the piece looks deceptively simple, but as violinist, Tasmin Little explains, it's one of the most difficult pieces to perform because the playing has to simply be perfect, or the mood is lost.

Update from China
Monday 9th April
Tasmin has written to say that she is having the most wonderful trip to China. She played the Opening Concert of the competition at the beautiful hall nicknamed "the Egg" last Friday and met the Former Chinese Vice Premier, Li Lanqing. The first round of the Senior competition has finished and 9 candidates are through to the semi-finals.
Today (Monday) the Junior section began and the standard has been very high with lots of excellent talent to enjoy. The jury are all enjoying themselves and getting on very well indeed - they are also being very well looked after, with superb hospitality and food in abundance. Tomorrow night they are invited to the British Ambassador's residence and on Thursday the Norwegian Ambassador is hosting a reception and later that night there is a dinner hosted by Prince Etienne d'Arenberg.

Clive James
Clive James writing about the TV performance of the Elgar Violin Concerto
in the Daily Telegraph ...
"... fragments of television, sometimes occurring while I was being wheeled past them down long corridors, could be observed and assessed. One of the fragments was the second movement, the andante, of the Elgar Violin Concerto, being played by Tasmin Little at the Proms (BBC Four). This I was able to sit and watch right through, with scarcely an interruption for more pills and oxygen saturation tests. It was terrific, and so was she. "

CHANDOS RECORDS Press Release (25/6/2010) (Excerpts)
"Tasmin Little records Elgar’s Violin Concerto for Chandos, released to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the work’s first performance, and including the cadenza used in the work’s first recording, made with Marie Hall in 1916.
Tasmin Little’s long awaited and much anticipated recording of Elgar’s Violin Concerto will be released in November, 100 years after the work’s first performance.
What makes this recording especially interesting is that she has included the cadenza used in the work’s first recording, which was made in 1916 with Marie Hall. For that occasion, Elgar ‘beefed-up’ the cadenza by, amongst other things, adding harps to counter the sonic limitations of the acoustic recording process. For those used to hearing the standard version, the result makes for fascinating listening, and the recording will prove a valuable addition to the Elgar discography. The cadenza has been tracked separately as Tasmin Little has also recorded the concerto’s familiar cadenza."
Tasmin's Elgar Violin Concerto on CHANDOS is "CD of the month" (Gramophone 11/2010)

2008 Classic FM Award for Audience Innovation: Tasmin Little
Tasmin writes:
It was a real thrill to receive the news that my Naked Violin download and project had been chosen to receive the Classic FM Award for Audience Innovation at the Gramophone Awards. The award ceremony, something akin to the Oscars in music circles, took place at lunchtime on Thursday 25th and my only sadness was that, due to performance commitments, I was unable to attend and receive my award in person!
Gramophone Magazine invited me to write a few words about my award to be read out during the ceremony and here is what I wrote:
I was surprised and completely delighted to hear that I have been chosen to receive the Classic FM Award for Audience Innovation for my project The Naked Violin. The response to my download, both internationally and in the UK, was overwhelming; and this, plus the South Bank Show television programme about my project, has proved to me that classical music is as vital a part of our lives today as it has ever been.
I have a few brief, but heartfelt Thank Yous:
First of all, to John West and Limo Hearn, who produced and engineered The Naked Violin.
To Horst Kolo, my brilliant and tireless webmaster and to IFDNRGwho host my site.
To Shona Galletly, who did a superb job publicising the download.
Thank you so much to Classic FM and to Gramophone Magazine for this huge honour.
It has been an amazing year and this award is the icing on the cake!
Congratulations to all the other award winners and have a fabulous lunch!
HIT
TOTAL on Tasmin's site has now nearly reached 485.000
site visitors, Thanks. (21/09/2009)
The site last January (2008) was absolutely overwhelmed with demand for
downloads - no wonder - more than 6000 sites worldwide were
linking to Tasmin's story, and we were getting heaps
of visitors from around the globe. We were lucky to be offered
the services of a specialist streaming company, IFDNRG, who coped with the demand of downloads wonderfully.
On Sunday morning (Jan 20th), for instance, IFDNRG servers delivered 260 Mb/sec after Tasmin's appearance on
BBC1 - for three hours. Phenominal streaming levels without
breakdowns! There were more than 6000 logins between 9am
and 12am. And download requests from as far away as Equatorial
New Guinea and Mongolia. Visitors
from well over 100 countries have now logged in. IFDNRG have published a case study of the amazing download levels
of Tasmin's Free Offer - which got very close to the download
demands experienced by their servers for the Scottish Football
Cup.
Enjoy your downloads, but, please, also complete Tasmin's
challenge!
Tasmin is delighted by your
response! (webmaster)
