CHANDOS RECORDS Press Release (25/6/2010) (Excerpts)
"Tasmin Little records Elgar’s Violin Concerto for Chandos, released to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the work’s first performance, and including the cadenza used in the work’s first recording, made with Marie Hall in 1916.
Tasmin Little’s long awaited and much anticipated recording of Elgar’s Violin Concerto will be released in November, 100 years after the work’s first performance.
What makes this recording especially interesting is that she has included the cadenza used in the work’s first recording, which was made in 1916 with Marie Hall. For that occasion, Elgar ‘beefed-up’ the cadenza by, amongst other things, adding harps to counter the sonic limitations of the acoustic recording process. For those used to hearing the standard version, the result makes for fascinating listening, and the recording will prove a valuable addition to the Elgar discography. The cadenza has been tracked separately as Tasmin Little has also recorded the concerto’s familiar cadenza."
Tasmin's Elgar Violin Concerto on CHANDOS is "CD of the month" (Gramophone 11/2010)

2008 Classic FM Award for Audience Innovation: Tasmin Little
Tasmin writes:
It was a real thrill to receive the news that my Naked Violin download and project had been chosen to receive the Classic FM Award for Audience Innovation at the Gramophone Awards. The award ceremony, something akin to the Oscars in music circles, took place at lunchtime on Thursday 25th and my only sadness was that, due to performance commitments, I was unable to attend and receive my award in person!
Gramophone Magazine invited me to write a few words about my award to be read out during the ceremony and here is what I wrote: |
I was surprised and completely delighted to hear that I have been chosen to receive the Classic FM Award for Audience Innovation for my project The Naked Violin. The response to my download, both internationally and in the UK, was overwhelming; and this, plus the South Bank Show television programme about my project, has proved to me that classical music is as vital a part of our lives today as it has ever been.
I have a few brief, but heartfelt Thank Yous:
First of all, to John West and Limo Hearn, who produced and engineered The Naked Violin.
To Horst Kolo, my brilliant and tireless webmaster and to IFDNRG who host my site.
To Shona Galletly, who did a superb job publicising the download.
And to Sinead O'Carroll my project co-ordinator, and Denise Kantor, my PA.
Thank you so much to Classic FM and to Gramophone Magazine for this huge honour.
It has been an amazing year and this award is the icing on the cake!
Congratulations to all the other award winners and have a fabulous lunch!

HIT
TOTAL on Tasmin's site has now nearly reached 485.000
site visitors, Thanks.
(21/09/2009)
The site last January (2008) was absolutely overwhelmed with demand for
downloads - no wonder - more than 6000 sites worldwide were
linking to Tasmin's story, and we were getting heaps
of visitors from around the globe. We were lucky to be offered
the services of a specialist streaming company, IFDNRG, who coped with the demand of downloads wonderfully.
On Sunday morning (Jan 20th), for instance, IFDNRG servers delivered 260 Mb/sec after Tasmin's appearance on
BBC1 - for three hours. Phenominal streaming levels without
breakdowns! There were more than 6000 logins between 9am
and 12am. And download requests from as far away as Equatorial
New Guinea and Mongolia. Visitors
from well over 100 countries have now logged in. IFDNRG have published a case study of the amazing download levels
of Tasmin's Free Offer - which got very close to the download
demands experienced by their servers for the Scottish Football
Cup.
Enjoy your downloads, but, please, also complete Tasmin's
challenge!
Tasmin is delighted by your
response! (webmaster) |
